This year Halloween falls on Thursday, with the weather having turned stormy and wet, forget the tricks....why not treat yourself to a white Southampton cab for your halloween parties?
Southampton's white taxis are all licensed to be safely hailed by the roadside or you can jump into them at one the city's many taxi ranks.
Keep yourself safe, dry and happy this Halloween - use a taxi!

The statutory law no.176 of The Motor Vehicles (Wearing of Seat Belts Regulations- 1993) states that while a taxi is seeking hire, answering a call for hire or carrying a passenger for hire a licensed taxi driver does not have to wear a seat belt. However, it is advisable that if you are going out of your licensing area with customers or to collect customers - you should wear a seat belt.
When carrying children in Licensed Taxis, statutory law no.1892 of The Motor Vehicles (Wearing of Seat Belts ((Amendment)) Regulations 2006), there is no requirement on licensed taxi/private car operators to provide child seats/boosters. Advice says to make sure that any child or children in your taxi are strapped in using the normal adult seat belt.
If however, you have a licensed vehicle with a partition - the Southampton Hackney Association's advice would be this - If you are going to leave the child with the parents consent in their pushchair, make sure that there are no bags of shopping hanging onto the handles. Secure the pushchair correctly, in the same way that you would with a person in a disabled chair and make sure that they have a seat belt placed around them.
If you have a saloon car taxi, please make sure that you carry no more than your licence plate allows you to.
The Southampton Hackney Association would refer you to the Department for Transport's Guide on Seat Belts for more detailed advice and information.
Freshers at Southampton and Solent University - A warm welcome to Southampton!
One of the need to know things about our great city is how to get a taxi safely home. In Southampton we have 283 licensed taxis. These are all highly recognisable as each one is white, and has a taxi sign displayed on the roof.
Southampton's white taxis are insured for you to be able to hail one down, if their light is illuminated, or jump in at a taxi rank. All taxis run on a meter, and those who carry over four people will charge an extra £2 this is well worth the cost to get home safely.
Here is a list of the taxi ranks are in the city:
Both sides of the Southampton train station - in Commercial Road side and on theToys R Us side
West Quay - Portland Terrace opposite main entrance to West Quay shopping centre
Portland Terrace, near bus stops by Asda
At the Bargate in High Street by A Plan Insurance
Town Quay outside Red Jet Terminal (IOW)
Terminus Terrace, near to Oxford Street
Above Bar Street, opposite Yates pub
Church Street in Shirley
Portswood High Street
Bitterne - Angel Crescent
Opposite Debenhams in Queensway
Leisureworld cinema entrance
Hannover Buildings outside Santander bank
Bannister Street outside Night Club (night time only)
St. Mary's Road outside British Gas offices (night time only)
London Road (night time only)
Remember Southampton taxi drivers will ensure you get home safely, and they are the only taxis where you can safely hail them from the roadside too!
The Southampton Taxi Trade welcomes the 45th Year of the Southampton Boat Show, we hope that the exhibitors do well and that the good weather attracts visitors.
The taxi rank adjacent to the Boat Show is in Herbert Walker Avenue by The Holiday Inn Hotel. There are discreet signs, but as you come out of the show look left and you should see the hotel!

Getting around whilst The Boat Show is on, is easy if your use one of the city's licensed taxis :O)
Here is some important information for taxi drivers regarding future airport pick ups:
Gatwick Airport North and South Terminal are apparently in the process of making sure that taxi's collect their customers from the designated car park areas, rather than from the front of the terminal.
It seems the days when the customers could ring you via their mobile to inform you that they are waiting to be picked up at a pre-arranged place at one of the terminals might unfortunately be coming to an end.
This was reported in the local Crawley Newspaper, any updates from taxi drivers appreciated - email info@southamptontaxis.org

Looking for things to do over the Summer holidays, and an easy way to get there?
Why not approach one of Southampton's taxi drivers (in the white licensed cabs at taxi ranks around the city) and ask for a quote to be taken to Paultons Park or Marwell Zoo and other summer school holiday attractions?
Often it can be cheaper to take a taxi than public transport, when there are several of you sharing the ride. Plus of course there is no waiting for buses or trains. With a taxi you go door-to door!

Take a taxi - see a girafe this Summer!!
Some of the Southampton Hackney Association (SHA) taxi driver members are concerned about the numbers of dogs they are seeing in the city which have been left in cars with very little ventilation whilst their owners visit Southampton shops.
With all of the lovely weather we have been having, it seems some dogs are being put at risk of heat exposure which can lead to death. The SHA supports Guide Dogs, Hearing Dogs and Assistance Dogs and we would not like to see any animal suffering unnecessarily.
You can find out tips for keeping your dog safe in hot weather on the RSPCA website here , along with information about how to report a dog which has been left unattended in a car.

With Southampton University students on their holidays for the next few months taxi drivers are counting their blessings that we have the vibrant cruise industry connected to our City.
Developments are underway for road improvements into Dock Gate 4 - the project has been called 'Platform For Prosperity' by Southampton City Council.
The main improvements will be that a new dual carriageway will run along the full length of Platform Road, from Town Quay through to Canute Road, which will enable the existing roundabout system at Queen’s park to be a simpler local access route.
We are hoping that this new road scheme will ease any congestion when entering the Port for all involved. Find out more about the project here.

The Southampton Hackney Association members have taxis in all shapes and sizes for all of your luggage needs...ask us to hep you as you disembark your cruise ship - you can also pre-book your trip here.
Fathers Day is on Sunday 16th June....are you wondering how to treat your Dad?
How about one of the many guided tours courtesy of Southampton Taxi Driver from the Southampton Hackney Association (SHA)?
See the sights of the city, or perhaps take a tour to The New Forest or The Historic Docks in Portsmouth?
Wherever you fancy going our member taxi drivers have a taxi cab to suit, from a saloon or traditional London cab to a MPV converted to take wheel chair users.

A great idea for passengers that are going on a cruise from Southampton is to go onto the Associated British Ports website and find out the shipping information and terminal the cruise liners are docking and leaving from as this helps the taxi driver to take you to the correct terminal.
