Here is some important information for taxi drivers regarding future airport pick ups:
Gatwick Airport North and South Terminal are apparently in the process of making sure that taxi's collect their customers from the designated car park areas, rather than from the front of the terminal.
It seems the days when the customers could ring you via their mobile to inform you that they are waiting to be picked up at a pre-arranged place at one of the terminals might unfortunately be coming to an end.
This was reported in the local Crawley Newspaper, any updates from taxi drivers appreciated - email info@southamptontaxis.org

Some of the Southampton Hackney Association (SHA) taxi driver members are concerned about the numbers of dogs they are seeing in the city which have been left in cars with very little ventilation whilst their owners visit Southampton shops.
With all of the lovely weather we have been having, it seems some dogs are being put at risk of heat exposure which can lead to death. The SHA supports Guide Dogs, Hearing Dogs and Assistance Dogs and we would not like to see any animal suffering unnecessarily.
You can find out tips for keeping your dog safe in hot weather on the RSPCA website here , along with information about how to report a dog which has been left unattended in a car.

With Southampton University students on their holidays for the next few months taxi drivers are counting their blessings that we have the vibrant cruise industry connected to our City.
Developments are underway for road improvements into Dock Gate 4 - the project has been called 'Platform For Prosperity' by Southampton City Council.
The main improvements will be that a new dual carriageway will run along the full length of Platform Road, from Town Quay through to Canute Road, which will enable the existing roundabout system at Queen’s park to be a simpler local access route.
We are hoping that this new road scheme will ease any congestion when entering the Port for all involved. Find out more about the project here.

The Southampton Hackney Association members have taxis in all shapes and sizes for all of your luggage needs...ask us to hep you as you disembark your cruise ship - you can also pre-book your trip here.
A great idea for passengers that are going on a cruise from Southampton is to go onto the Associated British Ports website and find out the shipping information and terminal the cruise liners are docking and leaving from as this helps the taxi driver to take you to the correct terminal.

We often get requests to find lost items in taxis, and this can be extremely difficult since rather than being a taxi company, we are an association of taxi drivers. However, if we can help we always will.
Just recently the Southampton Hackney Association received a lovely email from one of the passengers who used a Southampton licensed white taxi:
"Hi, I just want to say thank you to the taxi driver who returned my watch to me. I got a taxi from Southampton Central to my home and accidentally left a Links of London bag in it. I didn't realise I'd lost it till this evening and was extremely upset - obviously! This evening, the same driver knocked on my door and gave me the bag back. It has totally restored my faith in humanity, and I can't thank this gentleman enough.
Thanks again to him."

They are in need of more First and Second World War researchers to help collate names for the Southampton Cenotaph War Memorial which is opposite the Titanic Taxi Rank in Above Bar.
Does anyone have a family history of having lost their loved ones in one of these two World Wars? If you do please contact southampton.cenotaph@hotmail.co.uk...You can take a look at the Southampton Cenotaph Association website for more information by clicking on the photo:
Geely who had a significant stake in Manganese Bronze (makers of the famous London Cab) have now completely taken over the company and all of it's assets.
Although The Southampton Hackney Association would like to see the famous London Cab manufactured again in Coventry, it appears we are still a long way from that happening.
We will keep you updated with any news as it comes in.

Unfortunately due to the snowy weather a lot of Southampton Taxis are not working today due to the condition of the side roads.
The Southampton Hackney Association suggests that before anybody ventures out, they contact Taxi Companies first to see if they have available cars on the roads in and around the City Centre.
